The Australian Maths Trust (AMT), with support from Australian Science Innovations (ASI), will deliver a national program to inspire and challenge 60 students in years 9 and 10 in digital technologies and coding. The purpose of the program is to identify talented students from under-represented and/or disadvantaged groups and promote their interest in pursuing ICT pathways. The students will participate in a December or January residential program with a follow-up session in July, supported by one-on-one mentoring in the period between the residential schools. The program is funded by the Department of Education for four years.
The Program Director will lead the program and co-ordinate its operation. Reporting to the Executive Director of AMT, you will be responsible for managing your team of staff, organising a teaching curriculum for the residential components of the program, and working with the mentoring consultant to establish a six month mentoring program for each of the students. You will be supported by a program manager who will work closely with you and manage all the logistics and administration associated with the program. The successful applicant will be appointed on a part-time basis (equivalent to a 0.2 FTE) for a four-year period.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, train and manage a team of mainly volunteer staff.
- Develop the academic timetable for the program.
- Contact and appoint keynote speakers from a variety of ICT disciplines.
- Work with the mentoring consultant to manage the mentoring program.
- Take overall responsibility for providing duty of care for the students during the residential components of the program
- Assist with program evaluation.
Selection Criteria
- Have a strong understanding of and interest in promoting ICT activities and pathways with an expertise in teaching one or more ICT subjects.
- Have proven organisational ability and the ability to work to a timeline.
- Be a good communicator with both peers and younger students.
- Excellent staff management skills
- Exemplify the highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism
